I got my start in the fine arts when I began piano lessons at age 8. Later at 11 years old, I started drawing in a sketchbook. I developed my art and music skills over time and became more interested in media and design. In high school I discovered the power of Photoshop and basic editing software like Final Cut, which I used to make funny skits for my friends. But I finally got the itch to do something bigger when I watched both RWBY (2013), an ongoing anime web series about superpowered girls who fight with complex sci-fi weapons and a kickass soundtrack to boot, as well as Interstellar (2014) by Christopher Nolan. Both RWBY and Interstellar had vastly different, but very unique and colorful attention to music, sound, and design. For the first time, I came out of these viewing experiences asking myself “HOW did they MAKE that? I want to be a part of the creative process for something THAT BIG some day too”.
I found my niche at SCAD when I changed my major to Sound Design. After declaring two Minors in Drawing and Music Composition, I was thoroughly challenged by professors who pushed me to my limits and cared about my growth as an artist. I learned the basics of running my own business while on campus, jumping onto student projects as a fledgling composer and editor who promised to help these student films shine. I fell in love with the post-production process here and I carried that passion into my Master’s program and beyond. What really put my skills to the test in the end was the 2020 Covid lockdown. With nowhere else to go, I took to the online world and sold my services there. Whether it was art commissions, freelancing as a composer, offering my skills as a sound designer for commercials, or even editing for content creators online, I was ready to prove myself. Today, I’ve got 5 years of experience and counting under my belt.
Companies I have worked for:
Dartmouth University
I worked as a post-production specialist for 1.5 years in the Film and Media Studies department within the Black Family Visual Arts Center at Dartmouth, an Ivy league college located in Hanover, New Hampshire. I designed and taught educational workshops on editing, sound design, and music. I also handled troubleshooting, critique on student projects, and one-on-one help in the editing suite.
Dust of the Ground LLC
A small film/TV production house located in Columbia, South Carolina. I collaborated with them as a contract sound designer and worked remotely. My primary role was mixing and together we created 4 TV advertisements and 4 radio only advertisements for the SC Education Lottery called Cash Pop.
Mr. Beast & Mr. Beast Reacts
I networked within the Mr. Beast company and was considered for hire as a post-production editor. A part of the hiring process involved paid editing challenges for released videos, mostly consisting of re-sound designing segments of finished videos within a limited time frame.
